Sustainability

Sustainability

We’re small, we’re new, and we want to be honest. Bowryn isn’t perfect. Here’s where we stand today.

The most sustainable bag is the one you don’t replace

That’s our position. We don’t sell sustainability — we sell bags built to last. Premium technical nylon, reinforced stitching, brass-finish hardware engineered to age well. We’d rather sell you one bag that lasts five years than five bags that last one.

Limited drops, no overstock

We produce in small, deliberate quantities. No seasonal clear-outs. No overstock that ends up in landfills or off-brand outlets. When a drop sells out, we evaluate before reordering. This means waitlists — but it also means we don’t make what we can’t sell.

No leather

This is intentional. Leather has significant environmental and ethical considerations we didn’t want to take on at this stage. Nylon makes a better daily bag for most people anyway: lighter, easier to clean, more water-resistant. See our Materials page for the full reasoning.

Our manufacturing partner

We work with a manufacturing partner with decades of bag-making experience. We chose them after visiting in person. They operate under audited labor compliance standards. We’ll share our compliance documentation directly with customers, journalists, or partners who ask — email hello@bowryn.com.

Repair over replace

If something breaks or wears unexpectedly within reasonable use, email hello@bowryn.com. We’d rather fix it than have you replace it. This isn’t a marketing claim — it’s part of our business model.

What we haven’t figured out yet

  • We don’t yet use recycled nylon. Quality testing on recycled alternatives is in progress. We’ll switch when we can do it without compromising durability.
  • Our packaging is functional but not yet optimized. We’re evaluating more circular options.
  • We don’t have a full carbon footprint analysis yet. We’ll publish one as soon as we have meaningful data to share.

We’ll tell the truth about what we’ve achieved, what we haven’t, and what we’re working on. No greenwashing.
